2023 The Prospect Shiraz Montepulciano

Call it a hunch - or just good exploration. The Prospect is a wine that digs deep, blending Shiraz and Montepulciano into a dark-fruited, spice-layered red with savoury grip and staying power. A classic Gibson find: hidden in plain sight.

Dirtborn Barossa reflects our spirit of prospecting. It began with Rob Gibson – The Dirtman – during his formative years as a geologist. We continue a keen-eyed search for what might be hidden, waiting to be revealed.

The 2023 growing season featured above average winter rains followed by a perfectly mild, fine, dry harvest period.  Temperatures were milder than average with few hot days.  Ripening was slow, enabling good retention of fine varietal flavours.

The 2023 Shiraz Monty presents a ruby-red hue .It displays a youthful and vibrant energy with lifted florals, wild herbs, mulberry and black cherry, accented by subtle spice.

The palate opens with a solid core of dark fruits, black cherry, wrapped in spice-laden detail. Rustic, persistent tannins frame the wine, providing gentle grip and structure while allowing the fruit to remain at the forefront.
