Gibson recognised in new Australian Wine Classification

We’re incredibly proud to announce that our Australian Old Vine Collection Barossa Shiraz has been recognised in The Real Review Wine Classification of Australia. One of only 285 Australian wines to be featured in the new classification, the AOVC Barossa Shiraz has been awarded two merits, meaning it:

  • has demonstrated its quality in The Real Review’s blind tastings over a period of at least ten years
  • has achieved gold or high silver ribbons in recent vintages, with top vintages achieving 96+ points
  • joins just 41 other Australian Shiraz wines to be awarded two merits

Here is what Huon Hooke of The Real Review had to say about the current vintage (2017) of the Australian Old Vine Collection Barossa Shiraz;

“Deepish colour with just a trace of purple remaining. The aromas are all about wood and barrel maturation at first—vanilla, mocha, dark chocolate toasted oak—and the palate is full-bodied and supple, balanced and easygoing if a little straightforward. There is terrific richness and depth but the wine needs time to bring out its complexity and realise its full value. Fleshy richness, lavish chocolaty flavour and supple tannins are already very seductive.”
Huon Hooke – The Real Review

What is The Real Review Wine Classification system?

The Real Review Wine Classification features the greatest wines of Australia with an outstanding track record of a decade or longer. Each wine has demonstrated its quality in blind tastings over a period of at least ten years. Unlike other classifications, price or resale value of a wine plays no role in the assessment.
