Tasting Australia - The Mallee, Soil to Plate - 9th May 2026

The Mallee, Soil to Plate

As part of Tasting Australia 2026, Gibson Wines is proud to be involved in The Mallee, Soil to Plate, a deeply immersive food and wine experience set in the heart of South Australia’s Southern Mallee.

Hosted at Mallee Spirit Distillery, this full day and evening event invites guests to step off the beaten track and discover where food, farming and flavour truly begin.

From soil to table

This experience is grounded in place. Guests are welcomed into Lameroo, South Australia’s Agricultural Town of the Year, where the story of the land unfolds through guided tours, local voices and hands on insight into modern farming.

Saturday’s journey includes optional guided coach tours through the Lameroo district, visits to the local museum with the Lameroo Historical Society, and an on farm experience hosted by a fifth generation farming family. Here, guests gain rare access to broadacre cropping systems, centre pivot irrigation and olive grove cultivation, offering a genuine look at food production from the ground up.

An evening of flavour and firelight

From late afternoon, the focus shifts from field to plate. Local food icons Ann Venning and Karalee Handreck present a generous tapas style feast celebrating the best produce of the Southern Mallee.

Expect premium lamb, pork and beef, beautiful grains, olives, nuts and vibrant seasonal vegetables, all thoughtfully prepared and designed for sharing.

Drinks are paired throughout the evening, with craft gin from distiller Robin Valentine of Mallee Spirit and wines poured by Gibson Wines, including selections hosted by Adam Fiegert from Gibson Wines, Angaston. A full bar is available, with carefully considered non alcoholic options included.

As night falls, acoustic duo Rob Beinke and Bec provide a relaxed soundtrack beside a crackling fire, creating an unforgettable atmosphere under the open Mallee sky.

Stay a little longer

Guests have the option to extend the experience with a two night unpowered campsite on site. Arrive Friday evening to settle in, enjoy a casual drink at the broadacre bar, and connect with fellow guests before the main event on Saturday.

Facilities include toilets and showers, making it an easy and comfortable way to fully immerse yourself in the experience.
