My Darling

GibsonMy Darling

2017 Merlot

Barossa, SA

Sweet spices, violets and plums frame a palate that is at one moment soft and tender, the next firm and reassuring.

From $25.00 per bottle

    Description

‘My Darling’ is an endearing reference to Rob Gibson’s wife Anne.

The Merlot vineyard at Light Pass was planted to the ‘Gibson-Schulz Trellis’ system - a unique method of training vines, co-invented by Rob. Vines are alternately planted on a low and high cordon wire, the latter reaching over two metres in height.

Whilst sweet spices, violets and plums are all evident in the ‘My Darling’ bottling, Rob’s description of the Merlot variety is eloquently put. “At one moment soft and tender, the next firm and reassuring.”

Although we know his love of Merlot, we can’t help but feel this is also Rob’s way of subtly describing the true darling in his life.

    • Closure ScrewCap
    • Vintage Notes

Winter rains commenced a good growing season. Early temperatures in October, November and December were well above average, enhancing rapid development. March was cool. Mild dry ripening conditions later combined with low yields led to good varietal expression in Merlot.

    • Winemaking

Origin of grapes: Barossa Merlot (98%), Barossa Petit Verdot (2%)

    • Tasting Notes

This wine shows lifted aromas of ripe stone fruit, violets, cassis and vanilla notes. A charming balance of cherry, plum and spice characters on a firm framework of powdery tannins.
