    Description

Barossa Montepulciano, or ‘Monte’, is a discovery we have great faith in. With its Mediterranean origins, it has natural agility to perform well in warm, dry conditions. We see it as a ‘gen next’ Barossa variety that will sit comfortably alongside existing regional classics.

Our 2020 Montepulciano, grown across two sites in the Barossa, it has a raspberry licorice and boysenberry aroma, with choc-cherry, boysenberry and pomegranate curiosity.

Dry winter and dry growing season resulting in very low yields.

Canopies ran out of available soil moisture everywhere even where irrigation was limited in the Barossa resulting in slow berry ripening.

Quite a cold spring with frost and a cool March wasn't good for fruit set.

    • Tasting Notes

Crimson with ruby hue. A perfumed nose with aromas of fresh boysenberry, raspberry licorice, black cherry, supported by hints of bramble and dried bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied and packed with flavours of choc-cherry, boysenberry and pomegranate, bright acidity and finishing with savoury chalky tannin.

    • Food Matches

      Wood fired pizza
